The green and gold felt a little blue after Saturday’s game against fourth-ranked Concordia University, Irvine (CUI). The Sea Lions lost three close sets of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.
PLNU dropped to 18-10 overall and 8-10 in GSAC, while CUI improved to 25-5 overall and 13-5 in conference play.
CUI kept a steady one-point lead throughout the first set, and outhit PLNU with 18 kills to PLNU’s 14. Though the set wasn’t entirely in CUI’s hands, after the 18-all tie, CUI pulled ahead to finish the match at 25-22.
PLNU started the second set strong, leading the game until the eighth point. From there, CUI took a steady one-point lead before finally pulling ahead to finish the set once more at 25-22.
In the third set, PLNU managed to stay one point above CUI all the way until the 18th point, when CUI picked up their game and came out 25-21.
The Eagles outhit PLNU with .308 to .273, totaling 49 kills to PLNU’s 40.
The Sea Lions failed to overcome CUI in all aspects of the game, as the Eagles were ahead in service aces (6-3), blocks (6-3) and digs (55-50).
The Sea Lions were led by Tabitha Henken who had 16 kills, followed by Chelsea Joanou with eight kills and Maddie Dahms with seven kills.
Natalie Hamill led the team with 20 assists. Kylie Morel aided PLNU with 17 assists and also led the team with 12 digs.
The Sea Lions will finish out their regular season games this week against Vanguard and Biola.
