ASB revamps constitution
by Jana Cranmer
December 3, 2007

The Associated Student Body Board of Directors is reviewing proposed changes to the Constitution of the Associated Students, including a change in the Board of Review selection process and creating permanent standing committees within Student Congress.

Under the direction of ASB Executive Secretary Andrew Henck, the Constitution Task Force, composed of three students, reviewed and updated the document.

“The Constitution was not up-to-date as we are operating; it needed to be cut down and streamlined,” Henck said.

According to Henck, the Task Force recommended moving the Board of Review from election to nomination to reduce the number of campus-wide elections and place additional power in SC to provide a check on the Board of Directors.

Currently, students can run for the Board of Review by petition or nomination.

The addition of standing committees to SC is intended to maximize its efficiency and potential as part of the student government by assigning members to specific focus areas.

An all-campus forum explaining the amendments and a special election are slated for early next semester, after the Board of Director discusses and approves the revisions.
