Flex introduces new honors community
by Jana Cranmer
December 3, 2007

The Office of Residential Life plans to replace student-designed Flex Learning Living Communities with a new Flex Honors Living Learning Community for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Honors LLC will participate in various intellectual, cultural and social activities.

Students will continue applying as a group of five residents, but instead of each apartment having to design its own educational community and recruit staff sponsors, all Honors LLC residents will be streamlined into one large group, according to Brandon Hill, dean of students.

With the reduced organizational responsibility, Hill hopes to see a higher level of participation among residents in events and service projects.

“By offering a structurally sound program offering fun, interesting and educational programming, we believe that we are not only more effectively helping our students but also promoting our learning community goals,” Hill said.

The Honors LLC is open to all third- and fourth-year students who have high levels of on-campus involvement and have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.25. Like the existing LLCs, the Honors LLC will include a fee of $100 per semester.
